Gail is going crazy...what is new?

i've been attempting unsuccessfully for the last 45 minutes to get back to my paper... I'm tired, I don't want to. so instead i've done everything from getting a drink, to putting on music, to changing eric's desktop picture to read all the blogs on here....so i decided to do something useful...post my own blog! because that's gonna help me get this paper done! expect more chaos throughout the night as i ramble on....and if you don't understand any of the phrases i might mention, i'll loan you my Japanese art history book. enough rambling for now. byebye.

Vampire Magazine - Demons&Wizards

Sadness. The article is good, but I don't like where he states that after 'Nightfall in middle-earth' that era of music is done for them. It makes me worried over where they are going.

Vampire Magazine - Demons&Wizards: "Well that ‘s my favorite Blind Guardian album, haha. Yeah I love that one! But that’s not meant to be the future, that defines what we have done on ‘Nightfall in middle-earth’ since we’ve pointed out, after ‘Nightfall in middle-earth’ that this era for us is finished."

Xbox 360 Prices - Joystiq - www.joystiq.com

XBox 360 base model, we are talking potentially < $300? Wow!
The loaded version will probably be closer to $400.

Xbox 360 Prices - Joystiq - www.joystiq.com: "Xbox 360 logoXGP Gaming is reporting “leaked” Xbox 360 prices. The basic package is expected to retail for
$299.99 and will include the console, one controller and all the requisite cables."

AnandTech: E3 2005 - Day 1: The Xbox 360 Update

I find this extremely amusing that the new XBox is requiring Microsoft to buy Mac G5's to do development / testing.
AnandTech: E3 2005 - Day 1: The Xbox 360 Update: "A pair of Apple Powermac G5 systems were actually running the Xbox 360
demos, not the 360 console. The consoles in the kiosks weren't actually
running, they were just for show - now you know why all the controllers
were wired."

Early Reports

It seems that Star Wars 3 made up almost half of its production costs in one day...

While Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith was expected to have a big opening, no one expected it to be this big! George Lucas' third and final prequel in the "Star Wars" saga earned an incredible $50 million from 3,661 theaters on Thursday alone. That's an average of $13,661 per location for just one day.The $50 million opening, which includes $16.5 million from midnight screenings, blows away the $40.4 million opening day record held previously by Spider-Man 2 from 4,152 theaters, and it also marks the biggest single day ever at the North American box office, beating Shrek 2's $44.8 million from 4,163 theaters. In comparison, 1999's Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace debuted to $28.5 million in 2,970 theaters and 2002's Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones to $30.1 million in 3,161 locations.Released by 20th Century Fox, "Revenge of the Sith" was produced for about $113 million.

E3 2005: Fallout 3 Confirmed

Well, even though the details are non-existant I am happy to hear this game will eventually be released. I haven't been a hardcore fan of fallout 1&2&tatics, but they were very interesting games plot-wise.

BBC NEWS | Technology | Call for radical rethink of games

Stop violent games and increase games for girls? Ehhh? Alright fine, I do enjoy games that don't have explosions of blood everywhere and naked women... So maybe it is acceptable to make games more mainstream, as long as we retain our RPG (elite) games which require a little bit more. And my wife is a perfect example that just because you are a woman doesn't mean you can't kick it with the guys.

BBC NEWS | Technology | Call for radical rethink of games: "As part of this, games had to become easier to play, as often people
are intimidated by the technology or the complexity of a title."

Chinese made first use of diamond

The BBC has an article about how the chinese were using diamonds to polish rocks earlier than anyone else... What I want to point out is the lower picture which I have included.

Look at that shine after if I read it right 4500 years...

BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | Chinese made first use of diamond: "Harvard University physicist Peter Lu and colleagues studied four
ceremonial burial axes, the oldest of which dates to about 4,500 years
ago."

Wired News: The Beeb Shall Inherit the Earth

I really like this article, especially page 2 which describes the issues facing Americans on the Digital TV / HD shutoff.

organization in the Western world to solicit and give prominence to
photographs and reporting provided by its visitors."

PlayStation 3: E3 2005: PS3 Price Revealed?

Let me just say... holy crap. If you were to compare specs vs. a PC this price tag is great, but when you are comparing the limitations of the environment it puts a big unhappy face on me :(.

PlayStation 3: E3 2005: PS3 Price Revealed?: "May 17, 2005 - According a an article published in the
May 17th edition of Japan's Mainichi Shimbun, the PlayStation 3 could
be one of the most expensive mass-market videogame consoles ever
created. Officials from Sony apparently told the newspaper that
PlayStation 3s would sell in Japan for 'less than 50,000 yen each.'
That translates to about $465 US dollars."

Tritium-powered batteries

Safe atomic batteries that could be produced at consumer product size and last up to 20 years. I'm hip with that. How would you like a laptop that never needs to be charged? Disposal of the batteries though would have to be seriously regulated.

Female GI Combatants... MSNBC.com

My personal feeling is that if they want to be in an infantry unit that is their human right to chose their life. It is sad that laws and regulations try to force someone who was born a different gender to not have the same rights.

Fun Weekend

Both Nightengail and myself had a great weekend. Played some of the new game Guild Wars that was just released with the executioner and also got some homework/studying done. Now 80% over the cold we acquired last week, although it has been fighting us tooth and nail. Hope everyone is as revitalized as we are!
