Couple anime things

Well, I tried out the demo to a "Visual Novel Game" based on Ai Yori Aoshi. If there is anything really game-like about it, then its not in the demo. The demo just showed me a typical first scene of an episode of the show, except that it wasn't full motion, just the characters with speech bubbles. The website doesn't say much more about it. They use the same voices, though. The storyline has potential for puzzles you'll need to solve, so that might be it, I'm not sure...

Amazon has something called Hellsing Vol. 2 available for pre-order arriving early September. I'm going to keep an eye on that as I'm guessing that might be the new series.

New Endstille

Endstille kinda replaced Gorgoroth for me as the ultimate in screaming distorted noise...mainly because half of Gorgoroth is in jail and won't be making music anytime soon.

"A brand-new ENDSTILLE track, entitled "Bastard", has been posted online at Endstille.com."Bastard" comes off the German black metallers' upcoming fourth full-length album, "Navigator", due on August 1 via Twilight-Vertrieb. The follow-up to last year's "Dominanz" was recorded at JAKs-Hell studio and will contain 10 tracks with a running time of 43 minutes."

Solar Sail :(

So unfortunately it appears that the launch of the new Solar Sail test machine which would have hopefully proven the theory of using Photon's for propulsion has failed. The Russian rocket which carried the Cosmos 1 up into orbit had a catastrophic failure during launch and although it isn't confirmed that Cosmos 1 was destroyed they haven't received signals from it, nor sighted it.

Pumpkins

Reuters is reporting that singer Billy Corgan said on Tuesday (June 21) he plans to revive the SMASHING PUMPKINS, his Grammy-winning band which broke up in 2000 after more than a decade of blending alternative rock with the avant-garde. In full-page advertisements in Chicago newspapers, the bald-headed Corgan said, "I want my band back, and my songs, and my dreams." He did not say which if any of the band's former members would be involved in the revived group, which broke through with albums such as "Gish" and "Siamese Dream".

Solar Sail

Interesting...

The Planetary Society footed the bill for a Solar powered space craft to be launched into orbit today. It is going to circle the earth until it builds up enough speed and the scientists in control of it understand how to control/steer it.

They estimate that after one day it will speed up to 100MPH.
After 100 days it will be running at 10,000MPH.
After 3 years it will be flying at a cool 100,000MPH.

This is the technology that a lot of scientists are betting on because it does not require a limited fuel source as the photons which power it are supposedly available anywhere we would want to go. With this technology if it works the way we hope, we could potentially reach other solar systems.

I was just thinking about how this would work and found this thought really interesting.
a. We use the Sun's photons to increase our speed to 100,000+ MPH
b. We fold in our solar sail and change heading from our solar system to the nearest external solar system
c. After reaching the remote solar system x years from now, we fold out the solar sail to use the new star's photons to slow ourselves down.

Originally I was thinking that we would start to head towards the remote solar system and we would slow down because of the photons hitting us on our sails from the front (like how a sailing boat angled towards the incoming wind would slow to a stop). Interesting, a lot of stuff could go on with this technology.

Here is the official site for the Planetary Society - Solar Sail launch.

A fix for a Broken Patent System?

Oh god I hope it does something. Nothing irritates me more than hearing about this company sueing that company because they took their idea and improved upon it. But because the company doing the sueing allocated more budget to litigation they can put the better company out of business.

Points for Ozzy - seems he's a soda fan too

ContactMusic.com is reporting that Ozzy Osbourne's tastes have proved to be pricey for bosses of his Ozzfest 2005 tour — because he guzzles close to $2,000 worth of fizzy drinks alone on the road.As the BLACK SABBATH frontman prepares to take a host of bands on road with him for the summer-long trek — which begins next month in Massachusetts — organizers are scurrying to get Osbourne's specific tastes catered for.Tour manager Dave Moscato says, "He drinks English Orangina Light. Each bottle runs at $4. Over the course of the tour, at a six-pack a day, that's almost $2,000 in Ozzy's soda alone."

Early Reports

It seems that Star Wars 3 made up almost half of its production costs in one day...

While Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith was expected to have a big opening, no one expected it to be this big! George Lucas' third and final prequel in the "Star Wars" saga earned an incredible $50 million from 3,661 theaters on Thursday alone. That's an average of $13,661 per location for just one day.The $50 million opening, which includes $16.5 million from midnight screenings, blows away the $40.4 million opening day record held previously by Spider-Man 2 from 4,152 theaters, and it also marks the biggest single day ever at the North American box office, beating Shrek 2's $44.8 million from 4,163 theaters. In comparison, 1999's Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace debuted to $28.5 million in 2,970 theaters and 2002's Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones to $30.1 million in 3,161 locations.Released by 20th Century Fox, "Revenge of the Sith" was produced for about $113 million.

BLIND GUARDIAN singer Hansi Kürsch has posted the following message on the group's official web site:"First of all I would like to say how much we all appreciate the way you are dealing with the split [with drummer Thomen Stauch]. It is, as some of you have pointed out, not the end of the world but a new beginning. I am really proud about each step we have made in the past but as time moves on we must move on as well."The future is wide open..."And now a couple of short statements in reply to your concerns and questions:"There will be no delay of the next BLIND GUARDIAN production. As you probably know: a BLIND GUARDIAN album is ready when we feel it is ready. This makes it somewhat difficult to come up with a precise schedule. I can guarantee the release of the next BLIND GUARDIAN album for 2006. If it finally turns out to be spring, summer or fall I don't really dare to say. If you had asked me about the release date for the next DEMONS AND WIZARDS album two months ago I would have said April. Now it will be June. Things like that happen and it doesn't take a lot for a delay to be introduced. The orchestra album is scheduled for 2007. I do not see any reason for delays there."

Ionic Breeze

Interesting MSNBC article about the Ionic Breeze. I don't know if I completely agree with the article because I have seen tons of dust and dirt on mine after 2 weeks of being used. On the flip side because of the warning about unhealthy levels of Ozone from the system, I think I'll move it farther away from my bed (heh).

Blind Guardian Drummer

From Blabbermouth:

German power metallers BLIND GUARDIAN have parted ways with longtime drummer Thomen Stauch. Frontman Hansi Kürsch's official statement on the matter reads as follows:"No news is good news. This obviously is bad news. After walking along the same musical paths for about 20 years and after several long, open and honest discussions between the four band members, we have all (including Thomen) come to the same conclusion that it is now best for Thomen to leave the band."Since we developed different musical and personal directions for quite a while now, it turned out to be more and more difficult to find acceptable and suitable solutions for everyone in the band. Such circumstances would have eventually caused severe internal problems. Therefore, to avoid any damage to our close relationship this difficult step is essential. In terms of creativity or progression neither one of us would like to hold the other one back. Due to that fact the split seems to be a sad, but reasonable solution. We wish Thomen all the best for the future and hope to come up with more positive news in the near future."…and day shall come again"In a separate statement of his own, Stauch emphasized that the split was amicable and offered his gratitude to his former BLIND GUARDIAN colleagues:"As you may have read in Hansi's statement, I am no longer the drummer of BLIND GUARDIAN. From now on we are going our separate ways, at least musically. I must admit it is quite a sad, but necessary decision in order for us to remain friends."I stand fully behind Hansi's declaration, so I will keep my statement as short as possible, and wish BLIND GUARDIAN all the best for the future, hoping that they find another drummer without any hassle."I would also like to use this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you who stood by us through all those years, especially our fans. You are the best!!! I hope to see you again soon!"A big thank you to my old colleagues, Hansi, Andre and Marcus, for all the amazing times we've shared."Stauch is currently working on an as-yet-unnamed new project with SOILWORK vocalist Björn "Speed" Strid. The collaboration, which originally went under the COLDSEED moniker, was previously described by Strid as "a mixture between RAMMSTEIN and ALICE IN CHAINS." A full-length album was recenetly recorded and is due later in the year.

Please do yourself a favor and watch this video of these crazy animatronic dinosaur robots created by Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology. Xbox signs up video game legend

LOS ANGELES - Microsoft has enlisted Hironobu Sakaguchi, credited with creating the legendary “Final Fantasy” series of role-playing video games, to make two games for the next Xbox game console, the company said Thursday.

This is definite good news for the 'Xbox - 360' (working title of the next Xbox). I would say that Microsoft is not going to make the same mistake of titles on the new Xbox. But I hope they include backwards game compatibility, it makes a huge difference.

Because of the troubles we had today, by end of week I plan on switching to a new blogging utility called WordPress. This will allow me to host all the content locally on my server and not wait for Blogger.com.

There is a lot of customization that needs to happen prior to me rolling the new blog out and as such I'll keep everyone updated.

More on Demons and Wizards

From Blabbermouth:

BLIND GUARDIAN frontman Hansi Kürsch has posted the following message at the group's official web site:"Though you have not heard a lot from us during the last months we have not been lazy at all. There are a lot of things going on at the moment. Just to mention a few: the DEMONS AND WIZARDS production is making good progress and the same can be said about the songwriting for the next BLIND GUARDIAN album which is at a very important point."André [Olbrich, guitar] and I have completed five songs for the new album and 10 songs for the orchestral project. Yesterday, we had a meeting with Charlie Bauerfeind (who is going to produce both albums) during which we have set up a rough schedule for the next months. We definitely will start the production within the year and it won't take as much time to accomplish it as it did with 'A Night at the Opera'."With regards to the next DEMONS AND WIZARDS album I am happy to tell you that five songs have been mixed for it already and that there are seven more to go. How many of them we are going to use for the regular album and how many we will use as bonus material I can't tell you right now. There are 11 Schaffer/Kürsch songs and one cover tune. We will be done with everything mid-February. The album surely will be released in late spring, or early summer. I am very pleased with the songs and so is Jon [Schaffer, ICED EARTH mainman]. My favorite tune at the moment is called 'Touched by the Crimson King'. We have not spoken about an album title yet but have to make a decision rather soon. I will let you know."
